Search Engine Optimization
Search engine optimization is an ongoing process, but its a good idea to make your site search engine friendly from the start.
- Use text for titles instead of images.
- Use alt text on images.
- Make sure the name of your church town appear on every page.
- Use the META tags in the HEAD section of each page.
Upload your site
After your site is designed, built and tested, you need to move it to your host's webserver. If you are using a page generator, it probably will help you with this. If you are coding by hand, or if your generator will not upload your site for you, you will need a good ftp program. My favorite is Filezilla. Don't forget to test your site again after you upload it.
Promote your site
- Your church's denominational website probably has links to member congregations. Be sure to submit your site to them for inclusion.
- Submit your site to search engines.
- Submit your site to google to be included on the maps at the top of the page. This is different from submitting your site to google for inclusion in the search results. You will have to create a google account for this.
- Your url should be included on newsletters, bulletins, mailings and most other documents that you print. You might consider putting it on your letterhead.
